In order to promote the development of orienteering for students in our province, enrich campus cultural life, vigorously carry out sunshine sports, and improve students' physical health, the Orienteering League of Shaanxi Traditional Sports Schools was held in our school on January 14, 2018. As the organizer of the event, our school promotes the reform results of our sports club through the intercollegiate sports league, creates a good campus sports atmosphere, and promotes our students' sports participation and sports service awareness.
The competition was hosted by the Provincial Sports Bureau and the Provincial Department of Education, with 12 representative teams from provincial traditional sports schools and more than 100 athletes and coaches participating in the competition. After fierce competition, Xi'an High tech No. 1 Middle School and Xi'an Jiaotong University Affiliated Middle School won the first prize of the junior high school group, and Xi'an Tieyi Middle School Binhe School and Xi'an Yucai Middle School won the first prize of the senior high school group. As the organizer of this event, the College of General Education, through careful event planning, professional event execution and good event services, the Sports and Health Curriculum Center has demonstrated our school's style and won a good social reputation for our school. People's Daily, Western Network, Daqin Network, People's Network, Sohu Network and other media reported on this event.
At the end of the one-day event, the leaders of Shaanxi Provincial Sports Bureau spoke highly of the event and the sports teaching reform of Eurasia University, Su Xiaogang, director of the Youth Department of the Provincial Sports Bureau, said: "Orienteering is a comprehensive sport in the process of development and change. It integrates science, technology, wisdom and entertainment, and is very suitable for the development of young people. As the first university in our province to offer orienteering sports courses, our school takes the reform of sports club system as an opportunity to carry out scientific and technological sports, promote students' physical fitness and sports skills, which is of great significance to the popularization of sports in colleges and universities."
The success of the event depends on the hard work of volunteers. The student volunteers of our school gave up the winter break and devoted themselves to the service of the event with full spirit and high morale, providing a strong guarantee for the safe and efficient conduct of the event. Through the provision of professional event services, students' abilities in communication, coordination, organization and cooperation have been improved, and their sense of voluntary service and social responsibility have been enhanced, demonstrating the cultivation of students' general ability and the practice of the concept of holistic education by the College of General Education.
As the pioneer of physical education curriculum reform in colleges and universities nationwide and the promoter of sports club system reform, the Sports Center has actively carried out the reform of sports club system. At present, 35 sports clubs have been opened to fully meet the diverse sports needs of students. Through sports to stimulate enthusiasm, improve physical ability, and comprehensively train and improve students' adaptability, decision-making, recognition, logical thinking, solidarity and cooperation ability, the unique sports education culture of Eurasia University has been formed.
Orienteering is a sport that integrates leisure, entertainment and technology. Participants need to use the compass and map to find the clock in point and complete the race in the shortest time. Nowadays, orienteering has become the main choice of ordinary people in Europe and the United States for daily leisure and fitness, especially among young people. In 2007, orienteering was officially introduced into our province. With the successful holding of the "Silk Road" International Orienteering Invitational Tournament, Shaanxi Orienteering Open, National Sunshine Sports Conference Orienteering and other events, the number of orienteering enthusiasts and participants in our province has gradually increased, becoming a mandatory part of daily people's fitness, especially young people's outdoor sports.
