UNM has a competitive faculty, and a Nobel Prize winner, Germain. He is one of the best theoretical physicists in the world after Einstein. There are also two MacArthur Fellows, 35 Fulbrights Scholars and 5 members of the United States National Academy of Sciences.
UNM's main campus is located in downtown Albuquerque, which boasts a population of nearly one million. It also has campuses in Gallup, Los Alamos, Taos, and Valencia County, and provides graduate and senior-level programs in Los Alamos and Santa Fe.
New Mexico is located in the heart of the southwestern United States. With convenient transportation, it serves as a transportation hub between the east and west coasts. The state has three interstate highways running through Colorado northward to Canada, and linking California in the east and Texas in the west. There are more than 200 airports in the state.
