
Introduction
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (commonly known as Rutgers University or RU), was founded in 1766. It is the eighth-oldest institution of higher education in the United States, the largest university in New Jersey, and one of the nation's leading research universities. The university has three campuses, the main one in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and the other two in Newark and Camden, close to New York and Philadelphia, respectively. The three campuses have more than 71,000 students from more than 125 countries. There are 29 schools and 175 departments providing over 150 bachelor's degree programs, and 400 master's degree and doctoral degree programs. The whole RU system has more than 300 research centers across New Jersey. RU is a member of the Association of American Universities and the Big Ten, and is known as a "Public Ivy". In 2020, RU (New Brunswick) ranked 62nd in the U.S. News Best National Universities Rankings and 22nd among top public universities, 50th in World University Rankings by CWUR, among the 81st-90th in Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings, and among the 101st-150th in the ShanghaiRanking's Academic Ranking of World Universities.
