
Introduction
Curtin University traces its origins to the Perth Technical School, established in 1900, with a history spanning over a century. Established in 1967 and located in Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, it is a member of The Australian Technology Network of Universities. In 1986, it was named Curtin University of Technology, becoming Western Australia's third university and Australia's first university of technology. [1] In 2010, it was officially renamed Curtin University.
Curtin University is the largest comprehensive university on Australia's west coast and has been recognized as one of the nation's top universities by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency. It is one of the first universities in Australia to provide international education to overseas students, particularly those from Southeast Asia. The university currently has over 40,000 students from Australia and 105 countries worldwide and is renowned globally for its vibrant and dynamic learning environment. As one of the most multicultural universities in Australia, it has 25% of its students being international students. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017, it ranked 2nd in Mineral & Mining Engineering. Architecture, art and design, earth and ocean sciences, nursing, college physical education-related majors, as well as education and training, are all ranked in the top 100.
The university ranked 217th in the QS World University Rankings 2021, 174th in the 2021 U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings, and within the 201–250 range in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021.
