Introduction

The University of Technology Sydney is one of the top 200 universities in the world and the No. 1 emerging university in Australia. Previously known as the Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts (SMSA) founded in 1843, it was renamed University of Technology Sydney in 1988. In the QS World University Rankings 2021, the University of Technology Sydney was rated as a five-star university in the world, ranking 133rd in the world; it ranked 11th in the world and 1st in Australia among the world's youngest universities with a history of less than 50 years. It ranked 4th in the world and 1st in Australia in the nursing discipline, 29th in the world in art and design, and its law school ranked 43rd in the world. In the 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), its Computer Science and Engineering ranked 13th in the world and first in Australia. In the 2017 review of Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA), 94% of subjects at University of Technology Sydney were rated as up to world-leading standards.
