Qi is the founder and chief architect of STUDIO QI ARCHITECTS in the United States and Hangzhou, China. She is also a member of the American Institute of Architects, holding a Master of Architecture I degree from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in the United States and a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from Columbia University in the City of New York in the United States. She has been honored as a Centennial Scholar at Columbia University in the City of New York in the United States and selected for the Harvard University Peter Rice Internship Program at Renzo Piano Building Workshop.
Before establishing STUDIO QI ARCHITECTS, Qi worked under the Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Piano at the Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW). She was also the only practice research fellow selected annually by Harvard University for Piano's architectural design firm. Subsequently, she served as an architect at the internationally renowned architecture firm Foster + Partners in New York, where she was also responsible for Chinese affairs.
Qi has imparted her expertise in architectural design at several prestigious institutions, including Harvard University, Columbia University in the City of New York, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the United States, and Tongji University in China. Additionally, she has been a guest critic at the Rhode Island School of Design in the United States and the University of Hong Kong in China. Currently, Qi is a distinguished foreign faculty member at Zhejiang University in China and serves as a graduate mentor at the China Academy of Art.
Qi has been recognized with numerous international honors, such as the Peter Rice Prize from the Renzo Piano Foundation, the Marcia Mead Architectural Design Award, the Toby Holman Architecture Award, and the Josephine Paddock Art Award. In the realm of architectural research, she has made significant contributions, earning a research award from the U.S. National Science Foundation, the Toll Foundation Research Award, and the Eleanor Elliott Research Award.
